Installation


«Doppel-Beet» («Double Bed» in English) is an installation that I conceived in the meetings of the «Bepflanzung» (“Planting” in English) working group (which I coordinated as a student assistant during the summer semester 2021) and designed with the help of the student initiative «Sozial & Durstig» team for the opening of the «Forum» in July 2021. (The «Forum» beeing the collective space we built and design with «Sozial & Durstig» for the HfG University community, see HERE.)

This small corner under the stairs of the «Forum», which is simultaneously a deconstructed bed and a plant bed, was intended to invite the human residents of the HfG to spend more time with their plant cohabitants in an intimate interspecies boudoir.

In a second phase of the development of this spatial installation, during the conception of the Raspberry Pi workshop («Skillsharing Week», see HERE), I suggested focussing the workshop on adding to this privileged plant relationship in a virtual way. To this end, we equipped the bed with a moisture sensor, a camera and a Raspberry Pi for a trying phase: as soon as the plants would begin to suffer from thirst, they would send their own emails and selfies to the HfG community. In addition to this, we were planning to have the images composed specifically according to the mood of the plants in the future.

During the textiles workshop («Skillsharing Week»), the mattress was also redesigned.
